Southwest Univeristy Park, El Paso Texas
Its finally here… Baseball season!
The start of the 2016 Baseball season started out with a bang, as the El Paso Chihuahuas hosted is Parent Club the San Diego Padres in an exhibition game at Southwest University Park. The city of El Paso has not hosted a Major League team since 2003, so it was great to see that “We” are finally moving on up in drawing back name acts to the Sun City.
Playing infront of crowd of 10,022 (3rd largest in history) the Padres and Chihuahuas put on a Show. The Dawgs took an early first inning lead with a two-run home run by Hunter Renfroe and an RBI single by Yeison Asencio
Not to be out dueled the Padres showed why they are the Big Brothers in this contest starting off with 4 run second inning with a rally that included a two-run home run by Jabari Blash. Blash crushed the ball out of Southwest University park to the cheers of 10,000 strong in attendance!
The Dawgs fought back and tied it up 7-7 in the bottom of the 4th inning until Travis Jankowski hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the top of the sixth where the Padres went ahead for good.
Looking good for El Paso was Hunter Renfroe as he hit two home runs and drove in six for for the Chihuahuas.
San Diego’s DH Jabari Blash went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs.
We are ready to see if both squads can make us proud and compete in the beloved baseball Post season. I know I will be cheering them on and have been blessed with the opportunity to at least capture the action of Our Chihuahuas home games!
Remember its time to #FearTheEars !
and stay tuned for more action from our El Paso Chihuahuas!
Here are some highlights from the contest including some shots of Oakland A’s & St Louis Cardinal Superstar Mark “Big Mack” Mcguire.
